Facts

Carbon steel is steel in which the main interstitial alloying constituent is carbon in the range of 0.12–2.0%.

Carbon Steel is broken down into four classes based on the carbon content: –

  • Low Carbon Steel Up to 0.3% Carbon Content
  • Medium Carbon Steel Between 0.3% – 0.6% Carbon Content
  • High Carbon Steel Between 0.6% – 1.0% Carbon Content
  • Ultra-High Carbon Steel Between 1.2% – 2.0% Carbon Content

As the carbon percentage content rises, steel has the ability to become harder and stronger through heat treating; however, it becomes less ductile. Regardless of the heat treatment, a higher carbon content reduces weldability. In carbon steels, the higher carbon content lowers the melting point.

Shot Blasting/Painting – Carbon Steel

Radley Engineering has a dedicated 170 Sq. Mtr shot blasting and painting facility using the latest blasting equipment. Our state of the art shot blasting facility is fully equipped with a recovery system and calibrated surface profile measuring equipment.

The in-house painting is NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) certified – level 2 inspector – level 3 contractor. The painting procedure qualifies to NORSOKM-51.

Our calibrated surface profile measuring equipment is used to measure the profile of a surface in order to ensure the right volume of coating is used.  This measurement process controls the coating process, avoiding excessive paint and insufficient adhesion. Insufficient adhesion can lead to certain areas remaining uncovered, leading to rust spots.
